Roxi Sim

Artist, Deck Creator

Roxi Sim has been involved in the arts all her life.  Her first love was with pottery and sculpture, and she trained in ceramics at university.  She shared a pottery studio with her husband, Tony, for 25 years.  In 1997, after losing their youngest son, Shea, Roxi and her family went to Grenada, West Indies, where she took up painting for the year.  Inspired by the colors and textures of the tropics, Roxi had several shows in Grenada and sold internationally.

Upon returning, Roxi undertook a seven-year, eighty-painting series, The Pearls of Wisdom Tarot, traditionally published in  2007 and self-published in 2015. Roxi has released the original paintings for sale and has sold them to patrons in the US and Canada.

Roxi also created The Sacred Feminine Oracle deck and app, published in 2015, focusing on self-care and well-being.   In 2020 Roxi created the Sidewayz Tarot together with Jade Storm, a deck with a different perspective, from the viewpoint of the cards.

Roxi sees creating art as art therapy, having studied art therapy and counseling.  She paints what she needs to see, bright colors and textures, and has a love for metal leaf embellishments that offer a magical effect.  Her work ranges from florals to portraits, landscapes, and fantasy imagery, often working in series.

Into the Cosmos was an immersive experience at the Okanagan Science Centre, where she painted a room in cosmic imagery on which she displayed her art.

Roxi enjoys collaborating with other artists. She worked closely with Rebecca Shepherd to create Deva Dialogue, several murals, and shows in Grenada, West Indies, and at home. Roxi taught Fine Arts and developed a career prep Media program at AL. Fortune in Enderby. She loves to inspire young artists to find their creative talents.

Roxi will discuss her artistic and healing journey through creating her Pearls of Wisdom Tarot. She embarked on the journey after losing her health, her youngest son Shea, and her Mother, Margaret, in a short period of time.  Having studied art therapy and Jungian psychology at University, Roxi understood that art was indeed great therapy to overcome depression and grief. Though she did not know much about Tarot when she started, learning about each card was healing, as she very much "lived" each card as she painted it.

Roxi will discuss how she used her own symbolism, including the language of flowers, Runes, and crystals, in her deck while still adhering to the underlying structure of the Tarot and the meanings of each card.
